This is an in-office role based out of London, ON, Vancouver or Campbell River, BC
Job Description
Key Accountabilities:
- Assess and underwrite complex specialty personal lines risks with precision, applying your senior authority level to make confident decisions that drive profitable growth.
- Be the go-to resource for brokers on complex or escalated files, solving problems proactively and turning one-time quotes into long-term partnerships.
- Execute underwriting instructions for renewals, endorsements, cancellations, and new business, including referrals from underwriters within your authority.
- Mentor and coach junior underwriters, sharing technical knowledge and supporting their development.
- Contribute to underwriting guidelines, process improvements, and technology enhancements.
- Champion Forward’s culture, values, and brand promise.
Job Qualifications
- 5+ years in the personal lines insurance industry with hands-on underwriting experience, including complex or high-value risks.
- CAIB, CIP, or CPIU designation (or active progression toward completion); [FCIP or equivalent an asset].
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills: you can explain coverage nuances clearly and build rapport with brokers.
- Customer service instincts that go beyond the transactional.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor or informally guide colleagues.
- Advanced proficiency with MS Office and comfort learning new underwriting platforms; tech-savvy is essential in our environment.
- Proven ability to perform under pressure and consistently deliver without compromising quality.
- Collaborative, inclusive, and transparent working style.
- Successful completion of a criminal record check.
Salary Range: CAD $65,000-$80,000
*Actual pay may be below or above range based on candidates’ knowledge, skills, and level of ability relative to expectations for the role applied to. Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are encouraged to apply
Education & Experience
Preference given to applicants with underwriter, broker, or other industry experience and /or education (CAIB, CIP or other relevant designations).
