Job Description
Key Objective:
As our Construction Specialist Underwriter, you’ll operate at the heart of our construction team. Using smart tech, deep construction expertise, and strategic insight to underwrite complex projects and deliver winning outcomes in Canada’s dynamic construction market. This isn’t manual mode underwriting!
Key Accountabilities:
- Evaluate and underwrite a wide range of construction projects across Canada from residential and commercial to infrastructure and site services – and everything in between.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with construction-focused brokers who trust your expertise and responsiveness
- Monitor and understand your portfolio performance, loss trends, and the changing Canadian construction landscape.
- Balance disciplined underwriting with creative agility; use your authority to structure innovative solutions.
- Jump into special initiatives and market challenges when they appear, your adaptability helps the whole team level up

Job Qualifications
Qualifications:
- 4+ years of underwriting experience
- Experience underwriting SME, mid-market, and complex construction projects across multiple construction classes
- Excellent professional written and verbal communication skills, with strong customer service instincts
- Strong computer skills with high proficiency in MS Office; fast, accurate work is critical
- Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to adapt positively when priorities shift
- Inclusive, transparent, and collaborative mindset with the resilience to thrive under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Successful completion of a criminal record check
- General Insurance License in good standing (or the ability to obtain one within 60 days)
Salary Range: CAD $65,000-$110,000
*Actual pay may be below or above range based on candidates’ knowledge, skills, and level of ability relative to expectations for the role applied to. Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are encouraged to apply.

Preference given to applicants with Insurance Industry experience and /or education (CAIB, CIP or other relevant designations).
